Munichs Reflection DIGITAL DOWNLOAD

During a recent trip to Europe, I sought to delve deeper into my Jewish heritage. I booked a short layover in Munich, Germany, to go and tour the Dachau concentration camp. As one of the sites of what is known as one of the most horrific displays of humanity, my expectation was a town that was ruined due to its infamous history. What I did not expect was to see one of the most beautiful towns I have ever seen. Emotionally, I was conflicted. On one hand, this is the place where my family was tortured less than a century ago, but on the other, this town is so beautiful. This piece explores those feelings. There is a repetitive feeling of joy that is quickly taken by the despair, similar to the strong history this town has displayed. My time in Dachau was beautiful. The people are so kind, and the public spaces are well-maintained. I am grateful for all the people I met and had the pleasure of interacting with. I appreciate the memorial they have built representing the horrific events that have taken place within this beautiful city. For anyone curious, this is a must-visit city. Please go visit this incredible city and celebrate the amazing culture built by its citizens. While visiting the camp, there was a bell that rang just before 15:00 local time. That is depicted by the three bells ringing at the beginning of this piece. The first melody you hear is the main theme, depicting how amazing this city is. While there, I rode scooters around the city, going through the small walking paths near a small river. It is the most peaceful and calm path I have been on. As the piece develops, there are stronger brass sounds, and woodwinds build their phrases through many quick passages. When the piece arrives at the slow section, it is depressing when I finally make it past the beauty of Dachau and walk into the concentration camp. The rest of the section stays in the minor key to represent the tone of the camp. There is a small emotional change towards the end, but it is taken back as a reminder of what truly happened throughout history.

Sequence of Rain – Viberaphone Solo (DIGITAL DOWNLOAD)

“Sequence of Rain” was inspired during a Tucson, AZ rainstorm. I started thinking about the different stages and attributes of a rainstorm. At the time I was starting to work on my vibraphone technique and soloing on the instrument. So after a summer of monsoons, I had enough inspiration to write a full-length vibraphone solo. This solo is split into 4 separate movements that emulate different stages of rain. Enjoy! Movements in order: Rain in Fall Kisses in the Rain Thunder and Rain Rainbow

Spring Ballet – Multi Percussion Solo (DIGITAL DOWNLOAD)

This piece was inspired by Igor Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring.” When I was studying at the University of Arizona, I was assigned a project to interpret the music from the “Rite of Spring” on my own instrument. Many musicians just played a small excerpt from this score, but I decided to re arrange it into a short multi percussion line. Many years later, I decided to arrange a full length piece out of it.
